GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

 

The Landscape Architecture Program aims to be a leading department in the fields of education and training, research and application with its innovative staff that directs the discipline of Landscape Architecture at all scales, can compete at the national and international levels. In this context, the main task of the department is to train Landscape Architects who can understand the environment, nature, life and space in order to guide the future, integrate their knowledge with their creative and intellectual identity, improve themselves with innovations, and transfer the knowledge produced in research and application areas to social life for the benefit of the public.

Landscape Architecture education methodological and practical studies on the formation of landscape development strategies for the future, landscape protection and use value analysis, as well as the selection of places for sectoral plans in terms of landscape protection and use values for investment requests; based on the analysis of landscape ecological landscape is basically the conservation status of the determination of long-term landscape development plans and preparation of management plans of protected areas, rural and urban biotope mapping and identification of Environmental Conservation on the determination of priorities in the process of preparing landscape plans, methodological and practical knowledge, skills and competencies; methodological and practical knowledge, skills and competencies in monitoring, producing plans, programs and policies to adapt to changes caused by natural and cultural processes for the sustainability of the existing or planned landscape; newly established or existing settlement areas for people who live in Urban, Nature, Ecology, and art on the basis of technical infrastructure, or within the framework of user experience and user habits it outside, considering that it is new to live healthier and sustainable usage styles, and in the context of systematic design and implementation methodological creating living spaces for the work, the knowledge, skills and competencies; starting from the scale of the housing block housing, neighborhood, district, city, urban environment and ecological balance and the private use area until all the green areas with the elements and criteria to measure the development of design based on functionality, the versatile design of herbal (plant composition) depending on time and place on the subject of exhibiting the principles of methodological and practical knowledge, skills and competencies; urban and rural environments, and trends within the framework of Prompt or individuals outside leisure-time activities in order to respond to traditional and new criteria for the design of the Recreation Area and spaces and programs on the development of methodological and practical knowledge, skills and competencies aims to provide.

The basic values adopted by the Department in education, training, research and application activities are collected in three sets:

Awareness of Public Interest and Social Justice

  • To keep the principle of public interest and social justice constantly ahead in education, training, research, practice and social issues,
  • To act conciliatory and balanced in the face of different expectations of different groups by ensuring social participation during Landscape Planning and Landscape Design activities.

  • To develop the awareness of using natural, historical and cultural environmental values by protecting them,
  • To balance the interaction of Landscape Planning and Landscape Design / Environment and Nature / Development within the scope of sustainable development.

Professional Ethics and Sense of Responsibility

  • To keep professional Decency and sense of responsibility at the highest level without forgetting that planning and design activities are a team work that requires the combination of different disciplines.

The teaching program of the department aims to train the necessary elements in the field of landscape planning and landscape design. The physical and biological approach, which forms the basis for the planning, design and management of natural and cultural resources, has given shape to the program. In this context, the Department trains employees equipped with academic and technical knowledge required by both the state and the private sector. Other purposes are to conduct research in accordance with the set goals, to organize courses, seminars and conferences for related organizations.

Success criteria of the program objectives

  • Finding job opportunities for landscape architects who will graduate, the number of job placements and the satisfaction of the employer,
  • The number of research projects carried out in the department and the number of international publications produced from these projects,
  • Providing services to public organizations and the private sector in the region in the fields of landscape architecture projects and research, the number of services and financial value,
  • As a result of the evaluations to be carried out at the end of each academic year, the “strong” and “weak” aspects of the Program are determined and changes are made in the direction of maintaining the “strong aspects” and improving the “weak aspects”.

Employment opportunities for those who will graduate from the Undergraduate Program

Landscape Architecture Program graduates are employed by public institutions such as Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Reconstruction, Science Affairs, Parks and Gardens Units of Municipalities, İller Bank, General Directorates of Highways and DSİ, Professional Research Institutes, Landscape Planning and Design, Nature Conservation, They can take an intensive and effective role in activities related to Environmental Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Strategic Environmental Assessment. Landscape Architects, both as employees and on behalf of themselves in the context of the private sector; He has the opportunity to work in Planning and Design Offices, Landscape Implementation Contracting Firms, Building Inspection Agencies, Tourism Facilities, National and International Environmental Organizations.

Necessary conditions to graduate from the Undergraduate Program

In order to graduate from the Landscape Architecture Department within the Faculty of Architecture, a student must complete 240 ECTS in total from all courses, practices and studies in the undergraduate program and have a GPA of at least 2.00.
